Our Legacy

Dr. Hussain Ali Mughal

Dr. Hussain Ali Mughal (12 July 1937 – 10 February 1996) was born in Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, then part of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP), Pakistan. He graduated as a medical doctor in 1963 from Hyderabad, Sindh.

Dr. Mughal began his career in 1965 with Santa Fe OilField Drilling Company in Abu Dhabi, then known as the Trucial Coast of Oman. In 1968, he joined the Abu Dhabi Defence Forces, where he played a pivotal role in establishing medical services for the UAE Armed Forces, especially following the UAE’s independence on December 2, 1971. Serving until 1986, he rose to the rank of Colonel, holding various prestigious positions such as Commander of the Military Hospital, Commander of Sheikh Zayed Military Hospital, President of the Recruiting Committee for Doctors, and Deputy Director of Health Services. His dedication to healthcare and support for overseas Pakistanis in the UAE, including the establishment of the Pakistan Cultural Centre in 1974, left a lasting legacy.

Upon returning to Pakistan in 1986, Dr. Mughal settled in Karachi with his family. He briefly worked with the Pakistan Air Force and later the Civil Aviation Authority before becoming the Medical Director of the Islamic Mission Hospital Trust. This philanthropic hospital, located in Korangi, was founded by overseas Pakistanis primarily from Abu Dhabi to provide free healthcare services to Karachi’s population. Dr. Mughal passed away at the age of 58 on the 20th of Ramadan in 1996, following a stroke in his local mosque (Masjid Sohaim, Phase 6 DHA). His sudden death disrupted the operations of the hospital, which later collaborated with the Rufaida Foundation to become what is known today as the Indus Hospital.

Dr. Jehanzeb Mughal, born on 20 August 1973 in Abu Dhabi, attended the British School of Al Khubairat and the International School of Choueifat. He continued his education at St. Patrick’s High School in Karachi and graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1996. Dr. Jehanzeb Mughal draws inspiration from his father’s remarkable life and career, as well as from his own experiences during post-graduation and higher specialist training in the UK, which have shaped him as a healthcare provider and philanthropist.
